  4. Hi Tony, I served with 56 Fld Sqn, part of 24 Fld Engr Regt RE at Tai Lam in the New Territories in Hong Kong.
Spent time in Korea with 'B' Troop 56 attached to the Royal Sussex Regiment at Kohima, refurbishing the camp ready for the yanks to take it over.
On returning to Hong Kong on the LST Frederick Clover, 24 returned to blighty in May'58 on the troopship Oxfordshire. I went down the road and joined 54 Ind Fld Sqn.
I returned to blighty in late '58 on the Oxfordshire, working in the radio room with Brian Faulkner. I was demobbed in 1960.
Anyone who knows myself or any of the boys in 56 or 54 or 15 Fld Pk Sqn, feel free to get in touch. My Email is: bill.purcell@yahoo.co.uk
I will be putting a number of photo's on Face Book in the near future, so go and have a look.

  5. Hi Tommo
Sorry I left reunion early. Its a shame the 54 turnout was bad after all the work you and Mick Fudge did to encourage people to go. Possibly we should have had it in the 70s or 80s and it would have maybe taken off. Still the venue was ideal and the meals ok. Take care and keep in touch.

  6. My father, ultimately Major-General AHG Dobson was CO of 24 Field Engineer Regiment in Tai Lam 1953-1956. He retired as Chief Engineer BAOR in 1967 and died in 1987. He looked back on his time in Hong Kong as probably the most enjoyable part of his life.

    1. Michael, Judging by the standard of your education etc I thought you would find them easily. Go to my website as usual, 54 Sqn etc and look in the Borneo photographs. There are a lot of new ones from Dave Lambert.
